Therapist Spotlight: Reducing Symptomology with Raven Maldonado-Brown

This Therapist Spotlight is a part of our interview series with experienced Mental Health Practitioners, where therapists share their experiences in Private Practice Therapy.
What was one of the biggest problems you struggled with and ultimately solved in the beginning of your private practice? What solution did you find to your (perhaps persisting) problem?
I think one of the biggest challenges was scheduling clients on days/times that made sense for them and for myself. I still have a full-time job and hope to make the transition to full or part-time practice so making this time is difficult. However, what I did was dedicate one full day to seeing clients and arranged my schedule during the week to be able to do so. It has been working well so far!
What advice would you give to a budding mental health practitioner just getting licensed?
I would encourage practitioners to link with other people in the field with similar interests to get a sense of how to build professionally. Some of my most valuable relationships are with those who have helped me shape my career path because they have been through similar experiences.
What advice would you have given yourself early in your career?
Read, read, read!
Please let us know about you: where are you located, any specialties, credentials, and educational background. How should someone get in touch with you?
I am located in downtown Manhattan and specialize in relational and family work although I also work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, life changes, and generally those seeking the coping skills to deal with everyday thoughts and feelings. I incorporate the principles of mindfulness into my practice to help people cultivate a sense of peace and acceptance of self. I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor with extensive experience in the social service and counseling fields. I am Spanish-speaking and thoroughly enjoying building relationships with people I serve. Find out more about Raven Maldonado-Brown and her practice on her website!
